William Hill cautious re Social Gaming

William Hill CEO Ralph Topping has outlined the approach that the giant UK bookmaker is taking in regards to Social Gaming. He states on his personal blog that Will Hill will be taking a watching brief instead of getting actively involved.

Mr. Topping points out that Social Gaming is already massive in terms of the amounts of gambling revenue it generates. What we like about Mr. Topping’s statement and William Hills stance in general is the fact that they are concerned re a number of factors that have not yet been addressed by Social Game providers.

Social Games still do not provide enough protection to limit under age gambling. This is a significant issue that has to be addressed. In addition if the UK government taxes and regulates UK online gambling venues and does not include social gaming in this legislation, traditional slot venues will exploit this loophole.

This in a nut shell is why William Hill has taken the stance of waiting until appropriate measures and legislation have been put in place. We applaud William Hill for taking the moral high ground on this issue and leading the way in highlighting the issues on social gaming.
